AMMA Victory
The US House just passed the bipartisan Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Trade Crimes Act and sent it to the Senate. AMMA thanks Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA), Select Committee on China Chair John Moolenaar (R-MI), and bipartisan co-sponsors for their leadership. The bill directs the Department of Justice to establish a dedicated task force to investigate and prosecute trade-related crimes like duty evasion, transshipment, and tariff fraud by foreign companies, including those based in China.
Domestic makers of essential medical equipment and PPE compete against foreign firms and adversarial governments that dodge tariffs and undercut prices through inventive schemes. These bad actors break trade rules, evade duties, and ship substandard goods, putting American patients and workers at risk.
AMMA stands in full support of this bill and urges the Senate to pass it without delay. We must increase the accountability, monitoring, and enforcement that domestic manufacturers need, and level the playing field for the American-made supplies that hospitals rely on every day.
