AMMA Newsletter - September 2026
Dear AMMA Members and Allies,
Today, on the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we remember all those who lost their lives and honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and frontline workers who answered the call.
Midterm election season is now in full swing. No one can say with certainty what the next Congress will look like or how committee priorities might shift in 2027.
That uncertainty is exactly why the progress we make right now, while this Congress is still in session, carries extra weight. Each victory becomes the foundation we stand on, no matter how the political map changes in November.
This also reminds us that our AMMA Political Action Committee is a critical tool in this process. Personal, not corporate, donations provide the lifeblood of this effort. The PAC will continue contributing to candidates as we approach the General Election. Learn more here.
On the legislative front, the House unanimously passed Rep. Ashley Hinson's (R-IA) bipartisan Protecting American Industry and Labor from International Trade Crimes Act (the PAIL Act). It creates a dedicated trade-crimes enforcement structure within the Department of Justice to prosecute the customs fraud, duty evasion, and illegal transshipment that let unfairly traded foreign PPE undercut American manufacturers. We're now turning our attention to the Senate to keep this bipartisan momentum alive heading into an uncertain election year.
With an eye on the Administration, AMMA filed formal comments with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on the CY 2027 Outpatient Prospective Payment System and Ambulatory Surgical Center proposed rule. AMMA urged CMS to adjust Medicare payments so hospitals are rewarded for choosing American-made PPE and essential medical supplies.
Thank you to the many member companies who also submitted their own letters to CMS. Our collaborative groundswell of voices strengthens our case with regulators. This is a meaningful step toward turning "Buy American" into a real purchasing incentive.
Executive Director Eric Axel had an op-ed placed in newspapers across the country this month. It made the case for sustained investment in domestic PPE manufacturing. Earned media like this is one of our most effective tools for keeping domestic manufacturing in front of policymakers and the public, especially in their hometowns.
Please join us in welcoming new member U.S. Medical Glove Company (https://usmg.us/) to AMMA. We're glad to have them in the fold as we continue building the strongest possible coalition of American makers.
If you haven't already, take a few minutes to look around our new and improved website at www.ammaunited.org. It's easier to navigate, and it's where you'll always find our latest newsletters, press releases, and advocacy resources.
Thank you for everything you do to keep American-made PPE and critical medical supplies front and center in Washington and across the country.
Sincerely,
Eric
