AMMA Newsletter - October 2026
Dear Members & Allies,
September brought three important wins in Washington for American medical manufacturers.
First, the Administration kept PPE and critical medical supplies off the first "30-for-30" tariff-reduction list from the new U.S.-China Board of Trade. AMMA quickly thanked the Administration for agreeing with us. Masks, gloves, gowns, and syringes are national security goods. Keeping current tariffs in place protects the investments our members have made here at home.
Second, the President signed new Russia sanctions legislation allowing tariffs of up to 100% on the largest buyers of Russian oil and gas, led by China. It gives Washington more leverage over Beijing and shows again how closely trade, national security, and our supply chains are linked.
Third, AMMA argued for, and HHS will now publish a quarterly forecast of its PPE purchases under the Make PPE in America Act, starting October 15. It's the clearest demand signal domestic PPE makers have ever received from a federal buyer, and it will help you plan hiring, equipment, and production. AMMA is pushing the VA, GSA, and private health systems to follow suit.
October shifts the focus from Washington to home. Members of Congress are back in their districts campaigning, and this is when they listen most closely to voters. AMMA placed an op-ed piece in the Boston Herald called "3 healthcare questions for candidates." It gives every voter a simple way to hold them accountable to promote domestic manufacturing of PPE and critical medical supplies.
Please share the op-ed below with your employees, suppliers, and local networks. Ask these questions at town halls and candidate events. When your candidates hear them from their own voters, they remember them.
There is still time to support the candidates who stand with us. Your personal contribution to AMMA PAC in these final weeks before November helps ensure champions of domestic manufacturing are in the next Congress. Contributions are voluntary and must come from personal, not corporate, funds. Info at https://ammaunited.org/amma-pac
We will also be hosting an "Invitation Only" Membership Recruitment event on October 7 at NY Embroidery Studios in NYC. Thank you, Michelle, for hosting. If you have any vendors in the region you would like to invite, please let me know.
Thank you,
Eric
PS - If you plan to attend the MedTech Conference in mid-October, please give me a heads-up. We'd love for you to help represent AMMA.
