As 2026 begins, we find ourselves at a geopolitical crossroads that serves as a powerful reminder of why America requires a strong, resilient domestic manufacturing base. The Administration’s decisive move toward reindustrialization has created a generational opportunity to prioritize the long-term success and resilience of domestic manufacturers.
Having successfully secured critical pro-growth incentives in One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), AMMA is now shifting its full focus to securing market access and creating a sustainable demand signal for our products while simultaneously working to root out the bad global actors and foreign adversaries whose unfair trade practices threaten our industrial strength and independence.
With Congress back in session this week, AMMA is ready to amplify this momentum through three clear, results-oriented goals:
Enforcing Trade Integrity & Borders: AMMA is working to stop sophisticated circumvention and transshipment schemes that allow bad actors to evade Section 301 duties and undercut domestic producers, while our strong comments on Commerce’s Section 232 investigation provide the technical evidence proving that over-reliance on foreign adversaries, particularly the CCP, threatens our national health security. We’re also pushing for targeted tariffs that level the playing field for American manufacturers.
Expanding the Make PPE in America Act: While the original Act established essential domestic sourcing requirements for DHS, VA, and HHS, our top goal for 2026 is to expand these mandates to apply to all federal procurement. Every taxpayer dollar spent across the federal government should be used to reward domestic investment and ensure a stable, long-term market for American-made medical supplies.
Incentivizing Private Sector Demand via CMS: We are advocating for CMS payment adjustments to encourage private-sector hospitals and providers to prioritize American-made products. By expanding Medicare’s existing payment models for domestic N95s to include the full spectrum of PPE and medical consumables, we can bridge the price gap and empower private healthcare systems to choose domestic resilience over cheap, unreliable imports.
Our mission in 2026 is to cut through the noise with facts and evidence. Through our direct work with Congressional offices and the administration, we will continue advancing a pragmatic approach to trade and industrial policy that protects our members' competitiveness and the long-term health security of our nation.
